Sick again and missed the Mothers Day 4k :-(

I am feeling sorry for myself today.

For the last 4 days I have been stuck in bed, (or when not I should have been) with a cold. I have been training so well and was all set for the Mother’s Day race which took place today without me participating. My friend ran and did very well but I had to stay away and was not happy. I’ve been training hard and was so annoyed that this week had to be the week I was sick. It seems to be going round at the moment so I was very unlucky.

I really wanted to do the Mothers Day as it was for a great cause and I was finally going to race again, but alas it was not to be, and hey for all the mothers out there – Happy Mothers Day! My mother has to get used to having her Mothers Day card on the Australian date as I never remember the UK date!

The body never lies

I must admit I felt really lethargic in training about 4 days before I got sick, I figured it was all the training I was doing catching up with me, now I know better. My HR was up as well so I should listen to my body more often! If I had slowed down earlier I might not have been so sick for so long!

My favourite item at the moment is currently the tissue which is helping me get through the day as well as strepsils and my all important Nespresso machine! I’m also addicted to would you believe, Semolina – it’s stodgy and awesome as I am finding I want to eat story food whilst sick, a salad just doesn’t cut it – give me soup, mashed potato and semolina and I am a very happy sick girl!

I am over being sick but almost there. I figure when you get to the tissue phase it’s on its way out so I am preparing to be better and to get back into my trainers!

Here’s to another week of training once I get better!

  2. Hi there, I’ve recently started reading your blog…
    It sucks when you have to miss a race because of a cold but it’s always best to listen to your body. I was hoping to do the GC Mother’s Day Classic race this year but unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks 🙂 I used to run regardless but I have learned that it doesn’t help in the long run and listening to my body is the best way to go whether I want to run or not 🙂 There is the GC running event in July I think – they do 5, 10, 21, 42k – I did the 21k a couple of years ago – nice and flat 🙂 Maybe you could try their 5/10?

  3. Oh no! I know that feeling of disappointment when you realize you’re sick and not going to be able to race. But taking care of yourself is important and soon you’ll be back on your feet again in no time!

    1. Thanks 🙂 It’s my first day back training today – I’m not 100% so just going to do some light weights and maybe the bike just to ease myself back into it 🙂
